Notre Dame Mission Volunteers: A Legacy of Goodness in Action

"The whole idea, the vision of Sisters who started this, was to extend our mission, our way of being in the world to others. We are an expression of goodness. That's our call. To find and express and spread goodness in the world. And this is what is continuing in Notre Dame Mission Volunteers."

These words from Sister Judi Clemens capture the essence of Notre Dame Mission Volunteers (NDMV), an organization founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur committed to spreading goodness through education. Through their partnership with AmeriCorps, NDMV creates opportunities for volunteers to serve in communities nationwide, focusing particularly on educational access for people experiencing poverty. As Ted Miles, director of Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, explains, "This powerful collaboration between the Sisters, AmeriCorps, and local partner sites forms an interlocking cogwheel that continues to keep it all in motion."

The impact of NDMV extends far beyond a single year of service. Volunteers consistently describe their experience as transformative, providing them with leadership skills and valuable experience in education and social change. Many go on to leadership positions in education, non-profit, and legal services, continuing to support communities in need.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025-2026 service year, offering a chance to join this meaningful legacy. As one staff member explains, "That ultimately for us is our hope for anybody that comes into our organization. That you come in, you're transformed and then you continue to walk that journey with others." This cycle of service reflects the organization's mission of recognizing and nurturing the dignity and potential within each person.
