"The Eco-Spirituality of Teilhard de Chardin" with Dr. Sue Sack

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur hosted "The Eco-Spirituality of Teilhard de Chardin," a special event led by author and theologian Dr. Sue Sack at Amiens Hall on the Mount Notre Dame campus in Cincinnati. This inspiring session invited participants to explore the profound insights of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the renowned 20th-century Jesuit priest, scientist, and spiritual thinker.

Teilhard de Chardin’s work uniquely positions the Eucharist within a cosmological framework, calling us to recognize “the divine milieu”—the presence and activity of God in the natural world and in our daily lives. His concept of the “Omega Point” suggests a shared evolutionary journey toward greater unity and purpose, where only together can we become who we are truly meant to be.

Practical Reflections with Just Earth Cincinnati

In the second part of the discussion, we welcomed M. Shannon from Just Earth Cincinnati, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting dialogue and action around sustainable living. Shannon offered practical ideas for Cincinnati residents on how to apply Teilhard’s insights in daily life. Just Earth Cincinnati educates and mobilizes the community to respond to climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustice. Their mission is to work in collaboration with new and longtime partners, Just Earth – Cincinnati empowers the community to address these urgent, interconnected crises.

Additional Insights from Teresa Phillips

The event also featured Teresa Phillips, Director of the Office of Peace, Justice, and Care for Creation, who shared reflections on Teilhard’s teachings and their relevance to our modern call to care for creation.

A Morning of Reflection and Community

This gathering, open to teens and adults, offered a meaningful morning of reflection, inspiration, and connection. Together, we explored the deep connections between faith, ecology, and our shared commitment to a just, sustainable world.
