Global Sisters Report, March 6, 2025: House of Discernment blends vocations and intercongregational community

A recent Global Sisters Report article welcomes us into the story of the House of Discernment in Millvale, Pittsburgh, where sisters from four different congregations have created a joyous community that transcends traditional boundaries. Founded in 2019 by Sister Caryn Crook of the Sisters of St. Francis, this welcoming space serves both vowed religious women and those discerning God's call.

Among those bringing God's goodness to this intercongregational community is our own Sister Kristin Matthes, SNDdeN, who joined in November 2024. "Being in community pulls me out of myself," Sister Kristin shares. "The prayer together is very nurturing. The faith-sharing part I love. It feeds my soul, grounds me, helps me be more present."

Together with Sister Valerie Zottola (Sisters of St. Joseph) and with regular participation from Sister Mindy Welding (Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary), these women with hearts as wide as the world offer prayer sessions, book discussions, and community gatherings that respond to the evolving needs of religious life today.

This innovative approach embodies the spirit of education and formation that is central to our mission, creating spaces where women can learn, grow, and discern together. We invite you to read the full article to discover how these sisters are listening faithfully to the challenge and invitation of the Spirit in our changing world.
