Mount Notre Dame High School continues to honor the legacy of Sister Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN, whose life of faith, courage, and advocacy for the Amazon rainforest and its people inspires generations of students. In January 2025, 12 students will join faculty, alumni, sisters, and community members in Rome for a special ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Sister Dorothy’s martyrdom.

The ceremony, held at the Basilica of San Bartolomeo, where modern-day martyrs are commemorated, will include the installation of a relic of Sister Dorothy—blood-stained soil from the site of her murder. This powerful pilgrimage deepens the school’s commitment to its mission. It allows students to reflect on their values and their ability to effect positive change in the world.
