As a computer science student at the University of Notre Dame, Bridget Hart reached out to Sister Judith Clemens, SNDdeN, to better understand Sister Dorothy Stang's inspiring mission. Through her research, Bridget shows how Sister Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN (1931-2005), lived our mission by educating and walking alongside people who were poor while protecting the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Her life illuminates three vital needs in today's Catholic Church: serving alongside communities made poor, caring for God's creation, and transforming faith into action. Drawing on Church documents, conversations with Sisters, and stories of her ministry, Bridget's paper invites Pope Francis to recognize Sister Dorothy as a saint for our time.
We are grateful to Bridget for allowing us to share her work with the wider community.
